The key is to understand your Facebook audience. Generally, it has a much older demographic than other platforms. By understanding this, you can plan a strategy accordingly.

What to post?

  • Original content: Share what your college/department is doing, for example, research, news stories, students and alumni stories etc.

  • Sharing other content: Yes! Share content that fits your voice and plan. Stay up on trends!

How many times to post? 1-2 times a week

What content does best?

  • Break up your feed with pictures, videos and news stories. These will help engage your audience and you won’t always be posting the same stuff. Lots of links can be redundant.

  • If you use someone’s photo, please ask them first and make sure to attribute them correctly: camera emoji [their name].

  • Timing matters! Do research to see when your audience is most active. Then post at those times, but make sure not to post too much. Content overload is real.

Mistakes happen. If you do make a mistake, don’t worry! Facebook lets you edit your copy right away. If you upload the wrong video, news story or picture, you will have to delete the post and reup it as Facebook will not let you switch it out.

Be Responsive. Make sure you’re monitoring what people are saying. If someone reaches out to your account or adds a comment to a post, respond quickly and accurately, whether the feedback is positive or negative. If you are unsure of how to respond to a critical comment, please reach out to our team.
